Open call for new international research and innovation networks

The European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST) has opened its 2026 Open Call to support the creation of new COST Actions, four-year international research and innovation networks that foster collaboration across all scientific and technological fields. Following a bottom-up approach, applicants are free to propose any topic, with multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary proposals particularly encouraged. This year's call will fund up to 80 new COST Actions, increasing opportunities for international networking and knowledge exchange.

Who can apply?

Proposals must be submitted by a network of at least seven proposers from seven different COST Full or Cooperating Member countries. At least 50% of the proposers must come from COST Inclusiveness Target Countries, while 40% must be Young Researchers and Innovators. In each Open Call, an individual may participate in only one proposal, either as a Main Proposer or a Secondary Proposer.

Funding

Each selected COST Action receives funding for four years to support networking activities, including workshops, conferences, Training Schools, Short-Term Scientific Missions, dissemination activities, and virtual collaboration tools. The indicative budget is approximately €140,000 in the first year and around €180,000 per year for the following three years.
